Writing an article every week shouldn’t be too hard right? And the benefits of doing so should far outweigh the cons. But why write in the first place? Let’s discuss…

Hi, my name is Mark Antao, and this is why I am going to write an article every week. (For the foreseeable future)

Better Writing Skills

I firmly believe that being able to write properly is one of the best skills that a person can have. Along with good public speaking skills, being able to conduct your ideas or arguments into a well-thought-out paper is one of the strongest assets a person can have. But how do you become good at writing?

The key is in practice. Good, smart practice. What do I mean by this? Writing an article every week sounds good in theory, but unless you’re writing better each week by at least 1%, are you really getting better at writing? Writing blankly and posting each time without consideration of the mistakes made in the last article you made has no point, and this is how I hope to get better at writing. I plan to look at each new article I write and find at least one thing to do better. Whether it be better vocabulary, flow, or unnecessary words being taken out; I plan to get 1% better each time.

By writing an article each week, I’ll be able to keep my strong areas strong and strengthen my weaker areas in writing.

Documenting Your Journey

“Become a documentarian of what you do.” — Austin Kleon

The quote above comes from the book Show Your Work by Austin Kleon. It’s an amazing read on documenting your journey. But what does documenting your journey even mean?

To me, documenting your journey means sharing your experiences and your stories through some type of medium. This could be creating youtube videos, tweeting, or writing medium articles like this one.

I’ve always wanted to create a youtube channel, and I have. However, making a video takes time. There are many components of a youtube video. First is planning, then scripting, filming, editing, title, thumbnail, and then finally posting. So for me, at this time, making youtube videos consistently would be hard to do, and I am looking for consistency because again, the only way to get better at something is through repetition and good practice. This fact brought me to medium.com.

At the moment, I am looking to get better at writing, and it’s always good to document your journey. So writing an article a week is a win-win situation for me. I look to write all types of articles, from sharing my experiences to sharing knowledge, the possibilities are endless. The main idea is that writing each week will allow me to document my journey, and get better at writing.

Teaching

Finally, we come to teaching. There is an endless supply of things to learn and sharing what I know with others through writing is useful for both parties. When you write to share your knowledge with others, you not only become a better writer yourself, but you share knowledge with others.

Writing an article a week would enable me to teach and share knowledge with others while becoming a better writer. A win-win situation again.

Conclusion

In conclusion, writing an article a week should help with becoming a better writer, documenting my journey, and sharing my knowledge with others. The benefits far outweigh the cons (if there are any), and writing is one of the best skills a person can have. So why shouldn’t you start writing an article each week?
